The Long Island University Faculty Federation will hold a campus tour of LIU’s Brooklyn campus Friday to welcome faculty and students back to classrooms after an unprecedented 12-day faculty lockout.
AFT President Randi Weingarten, New York City Council member Brad Lander, United Federation of Teachers Vice President for Academic High Schools Janella Hinds and Professional Staff Congress-CUNY President Barbara Bowen will tour the campus to mark the end of the lockout imposed by the LIU administration on Labor Day weekend. The lockout was lifted late Wednesday, following days of community protests and student walkouts.
During the lockout, hundreds of students, faculty and members of the greater New York City labor community rallied each day outside LIU’s gates to demand the LIU administration allow the immediate return of faculty and resume good-faith bargaining for a fair contract.
