MVCC celebrates 70th anniversary

Mohawk Valley Community College is 70 years old this year, and the MVCC Foundation is celebrating by holding its first ever Online Day of Giving beginning on Monday, Oct. 16.

The event will kick off at the beginning of the October MVCC Board of Trustees meeting at 4 p.m., and will run for 1,946 minutes, honoring the College’s founding in 1946.
MVCC, first established in 1946 to help train and educate veterans returning from World War II, has evolved from New York State’s first community college to be the largest college between Syracuse and Albany, and the region’s primary provider of college education and non-credit training. The College educates more than 13,000 students each year between credit and non-credit classes, and welcomes more than 50,000 people annually to its campuses for cultural series and other community events, such as the Boilermaker Expo and Relay for Life.
Proceeds raised from the event will benefit a number of College initiatives, including the Presidential Scholarship, which offers free tuition to students of Oneida County in the top 10 percent of their high school class; a proposed outdoor athletics facility, which would include a lighted soccer/lacrosse stadium, eight-lane track complex, baseball/softball stadium, new tennis courts, and additional amenities; and other areas of greatest need.
