The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts a 14% increase of community and social service occupations between 2016 and 2026. Positions in demand include Community Health Workers, Substance Abuse Counselors, Probation Officers and Correctional Treatment Specialists, Social Workers, School and Career Counselors, Rehabilitation Counselors, and Marriage and Family Therapists. Adults interested in these careers have a number of options to choose from at SUNY Ulster depending on their needs and goals.
Adults interested in pursuing a one-year program can get a Direct Support Practice certificate, enabling them to enter the workforce to work directly with those in need. Those who would like a traditional degree can pursue a Human Services AAS, which is ideal for those looking to pursue a baccalaureate Human Services degree or obtain entry-level positions in public and private sector human service agencies. Those interested in becoming Alcoholism & Substance Abuse Counselors have the opportunity to go into the CASAC program.
