C-GCC students participate in New York International Auto Show demos

An annual tradition continued this year for Automotive Technology students at Columbia-Greene Community College — a trip to the New York International Auto Show. This year, C-GCC students enrolled in its new Subaru University option were also invited to participate in some of Subaru U’s presentations at the show.

Hempel ultimately triumphed — by one second.

C-GCC’s Subaru-U program launched in the Fall 2018 semester as a Subaru Technician certification option for enrolled automotive technology degree students. It offers Level 1 and Level 2 Subaru technical training courses that, once completed, qualify students for employment at any Subaru dealership in the country.

The Subaru U option at C-GCC may be pursued along with a one-year certificate program that provides comprehensive training for entry-level employment as a dealership- or repair-shop-technician; an applied science degree (A.A.S.), which includes both technical and general studies and two paid summer internships, or an associate degree in occupational studies (A.O.S.), which also includes two paid summer work experiences and prepares students to be automotive technicians, component rebuilders, and parts department managers.

The college also offers an A.O.S. degree through the Toyota Technical Education Network (T-TEN) program, which includes direct paid internship employment within a Toyota or Lexus dealership.
