Campus News started without much fanfare midway through the 2009-10 academic year, hitting about a dozen colleges all at once, and, since, has somehow grown in that time, now hitting three or four dozen colleges.
Ten years ago, most campuses still had active official monthly newspapers and other papers were also on the campuses. The New York Times and USA Today had college programs, distributing free papers at most colleges. Some local daily papers also had racks. Alt-weeklies like The Village Voice and others had racks on campuses, and news boxes on the streets. Glossy magazines like Pulse and Improper Bostonian had racks, too. And now almost none of that exists anymore.
Which makes us wonder, how the heck did this paper survive all that mayhem?
As the old poster of the baby with the spaghetti on his head reads, “Why me?”
Who knows? But maybe if we can survive another 10 years, we’ll win a Pulitzer Prize. By then, there won’t be any other papers left, so they will have to give it to us, right?
Anyway, we had our freelance cartoonist, LA Bonté, draw the logo to the right? We’ll run it all year.
