PODCAST: On skunks, dogs, front-page journalism and getting newsboxes from Boston

By Darren Johnson

In my latest podcast (listen here), I recount my recent trip to Boston — how I had to finagle an Albany bus depot, a Greyhound, smelly passengers and then a Lyft and a U-Haul — to get several dozen street newsboxes from a now-defunct publication for my Campus News operation.

How harrowing was the trip? What will I do with them? Find out in the podcast.

Then, in the early morning hours before recording the podcast, my dog was begging to go out — into the fog and darkness — and ended up getting skunked.

Find out what happened and which retro shampoo actually solved the problem. You should keep this wondrous shampoo in stock, just in case of Armageddon!

Then I look at my daily paper, The Post-Star from Glens Falls, NY, and notice they often run crime stories above the fold on the cover. This paper is also struggling financially, as are lots of similar newspapers across the country.

I put on my journalism professor’s hat and explain why these type stories are a throwback to the last century, and they shouldn’t be cover fodder anymore.

Anyway, listen to the podcast here.
