SUNY/CUNY chancellors co-author op-ed encouraging SNAP for college students

In an op-ed published today in Newsday, CUNY Chancellor Félix V. Matos Rodríguez and SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras outline the benefits of Governor Andrew M. Cuomo’s recent policy change that makes all students enrolled at least half time in career and technical education programs (CTE) through CUNY or SUNY eligible to receive SNAP benefits without having to fulfill a separate, 20-hour-a-week work requirement.

The change, the most recent action in the Governor’s “No Student Goes Hungry” initiative, shatters a barrier to SNAP benefits, more commonly known as food stamps, to roughly 75,000 students.

The op-ed can be seen here.
