“I could not be prouder of the work being done by the volunteers and staff here at WHPC, especially over the last year. Even with the pandemic forcing all of us to broadcast remotely, we continued to thrive and provide our audience with the information and entertainment they expect from us,” said Shawn Novatt, WHPC Station Director. “WHPC is celebrating nearly 50 years of broadcasting and I am so thrilled that the station continues to receive the recognition it deserves. Our mission is to provide professional broadcasting training to qualified Nassau Community College students, and these awards once again prove we are accomplishing our goal.”
“WHPC has once again proven their excellence in broadcasting a diverse and entertaining variety of programs that serve the listeners in the community,” said Dr. Janet Caruso, Associate Vice President of Workforce Development, Lifelong Learning and Weekend College at Nassau Community College. “In addition to being an excellent source of entertainment, the knowledge and learning experience the radio station bestows among our students interested in the field provides them with a solid foundation for their future in the broadcasting industry.”
Nassau Community College’s radio station is home to approximately 120 volunteers, most of whom are NCC students. Its programming includes sports, entertainment and informational shows, including a variety of music shows featuring pop, rock, polka and Italian music. The station can be heard at 90.3 FM and worldwide on iHeartRadio, as well as on Amazon Alexa and Google Home devices. It is the only college radio station on Long Island to broadcast in high definition.
