Columbia-Greene Community College’s Division of Nursing is hosting the seventh-annual Sandy Speenburgh Bike-a-thon, named in honor of a retired nursing faculty member, on Friday, May 21.
Robbin Wase, administrative assistant for the Division of Nursing and coordinator of the bike-a-thon, explained that the event has been restricted to employees of the College and their plus-one participants this year, in order to minimize the spread of the virus.
“Last year, we held the bike-a-thon in a very different way,” she said. “We asked the community to ride on their own and donated the funds raised to the nursing staff at Columbia Memorial Health. This year, we took a little step forward. Employees and a few other members of the campus community will ride together, and Sandy Speenburgh will be present.”
Wase added that the event is used to raise funds for various needs, and this year will be applied toward a graduate award and Nursing student orientation events.
“This fundraiser is important to the nursing division. We raise funds for graduate awards, nursing orientation, and to fulfill other relevant needs as they arise,” she said. “The bike-a-thon is always well received, and we appreciate the support. Next year, we hope to invite all who would like to participate.”
To contribute to the fund, donations may be made at the check-in table before 10 a.m. on the date of the event, or by non-riders by contacting Joan Koweek, director of the Columbia-Greene Community College Foundation, at joan.koweek@sunycgcc.edu or 518.828.4181, extension 3727.
