On Saturday, December 7, 2024, Professor Sophia Aidiniou and her dedicated students from the Health courses she teaches at Nassau Community College took a meaningful step to give back to the community by volunteering to feed the homeless at the 6th Annual Blessings in a Box held at the Assembly of God in Huntington Station. This heartwarming initiative was organized by Keep Your Change, LLC.
Professor Aidiniou first learned about this organization after connecting with its executive director, Louis Daniels Jr., during a fundraiser aimed at gathering money and gifts for those in need. Inspired by the cause, she rallied over twelve of her students to participate in the event, where they wrapped gifts and organized care packages for adults, teens, children, and infants.
After the homeless guests enjoyed a delicious dinner in a beautifully decorated venue at the Huntington Assembly of God, the students took great joy in distributing gifts, ensuring that everyone had something special to unwrap during the holiday season. Professor Aidiniou emphasized the vital role of volunteerism, stating that such impactful events could not take place without the generosity of individuals willing to lend their time to those less fortunate.
The professor expressed immense pride in her students, who initially committed to volunteering for just two or three hours but ended up dedicating the entire day and evening to the cause. Their selfless efforts not only brought joy to those they served but also fostered a sense of community and compassion among the volunteers themselves.
