In order to raise money to assist Claire Geagan ’16 of Hudson in her battle against cancer, C-GCC will hold a Costumes for Claire penny drive. Members of the ‘CoGreene Community’ are welcomed to vote with pocket-change for the faculty, administrators, or staff members they’d most like to see don a costume for a day, with one penny equaling one vote.
Barbara Shaffer, associate professor of Psychology and Sociology at C-GCC and coordinator of the event, explained that voting will be open every day of the week from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m., in the HRBTF Student Dining Hall.
“The top three vote-getters will wear a special costume, chosen for them, on campus on October 31,” Shaffer said. “So, we could see a professor dressed as a rubber chicken, a chef dressed as Colonel Sanders, a Dean dressed as a bunny, or something else!”
While a student at C-GCC, Geagan was a member and secretary of Phi Theta Kappa, a national honor society for two-year college students, and recipient of the 2016 Omnia Award given to a nominated student who exhibits excellence in academics, extra-curricular activities, community service, and leadership on campus. She transferred to the University at Albany, where she double-majored in Psychology and Sociology and graduated in 2018. She is currently employed as a Case Manager and Social Worker with Catholic Charities.
