We don’t overcharge for obituaries. Our rates just cover the cost of printing. They are $100 for 400 words or less with photo; $150 for 401-600 words and photo; $200 for 601-800 words with photo. $50 per extra 200 words over 800.
Also note, the Journal & Press is a 182-year-old historic newspaper and obituaries are permanently available not only in our own archives, but also the New York State Historic Newspapers site. Obituaries with us become part of the historical public record.
If you need an original obituary written, let us know. We have award-winning writers who can do this for an additional freelance fee.
