  • Hudson Valley
  • Upstate New York
  • New Jersey
  • New England
  • National (Web Only)

Or you can just be a writer or page designer for us! Let us know your preference!

                                       Pick your region!

Why Would I Do This?

Campus News is a respected, 16-year-old publication based in the news capital of the world, accepted into the New York City Mayor's Office of Ethnic and Community Media, with the ability to pump out stories to Google News and Apple News, and with street boxes in high profile New York City locations. In short, it's a great place to get published and truly helps your resume.

The Journal & Press may be another option for you to get published. It's an historic community paper serving small towns in Upstate New York.

How Much of a Commitment Is This?

Hours and Frequency for Campus News EICs: There can only be one editor per paper per semester or year. You should be able to commit about 5-10 hours per week.

For Writers: One story a month is usually fine. Pitch us first to get the green light.

Campus News is monthly and hits dozens of colleges, while the Journal & Press is twice-monthly and covers a tri-county region in Upstate New York. Out web site is open 24/7.

EICs will write two to four stories per month while also copy editing the work of other writers. The EIC will be a decision-maker, picking which stories get priority. You may also do some layout, depending on your skill set.

Most EICs can work remotely. Stipends and profit-sharing available.

Requirements

You should be a journalism, communications, writing or graphic design student or very recent graduate with one of those majors or a related major. You should have strong editing skills, and the ability to write well, work with other writers, interview people and meet deadlines. You must be conscientious with an attention to detail.

What You Will Learn

Hone your newspaper skills. Learn how to create and maintain a successful small publication. Learn how to work with publishers and editors. Reach real audiences and make a difference. Grow your resume, too.
