Get an AS, BS and MS in five years through SCCC and St. Joseph’s College

Suffolk County Community College and St. Joseph’s College (SJC) today announced new agreements that enable Suffolk students to seamlessly earn both bachelors and graduate degrees at SJC in five years. The leaders of Suffolk County Community College and SJC signed articulation agreements, the first of their kind for both institutions.  Students who have completed the A.S. program to the B.S. program in Human Services at SJC will also be eligible to earn the M.S. in Human Serves Leadership. Students who have completed the A.S. program in Computer Science at Suffolk County Community College can join the B.S. in Mathematics/Computer Science at SJC. Students will also be eligible to earn the MS in Forensic Computing.

In the most recent issue of the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics “Occupational Outlook Handbook,” professional opportunities in fields related to human services and forensic computing were projected to grow much faster than average over the next decade. In a rapidly accelerating and increasingly digitized economy, SCCC and SJC graduates with these degrees will have the skills they need to thrive in their careers as well as the intellectual foundation to continuously learn and adapt throughout their professional lives.

“These agreements are the first of their kind between SJC and Suffolk County Community College,” said SJC President Donald R. Boomgaarden, Ph.D. “A partnership such as this, which guides and cultivates students on the associate, bachelor and graduate levels of higher education, is truly special and will yield considerable benefits to both those who elect to study these disciplines and their future employers in our communities.”

“Today’s agreement provides our students with a streamlined seamless pathway to advanced degrees from St. Joseph’s College,” said Suffolk County Community College Interim President Louis Petrizzo, who added, “community college is most often seen as portal to a bachelor’s degree. This agreement helps our students chart a course to graduate school.”

The agreements simplify credit transfers for students who elect to enroll in the majors following completion of their associate degree at Suffolk.  Students will be eligible to successfully apply to the MS programs in human services leadership or forensic computing if they earn a 3.0 cumulative GPA while earning a bachelor’s degree at SJC.
