More Holiday Gift Guide Ideas!

See the whole GIFT GUIDE ISSUE HERE!

Practically every year, we do a gift guide. Here’s how it works – we put a notice up on a web site for PR people, and they send us items to review. We tell them in advance that we can’t return the items. In the past year or so, we started doing giveaways – Broadway tickets, Six Flags passes, you name it. These contests have proven quite popular – and they prove our college readers love print newspapers!

In any case, we decided to be extra generous this holiday season – we will give you these items for free if you participate and win in our Page 1 photo contest. Just specify which item you are interested in when sending in your photo holding the print edition of this paper. Add your name, major and the name of the college you attend. Best photos, as judged by us, win! Send to pics@cccn.us.

Let’s do some more reviews:

Worth the Convenience
The Fishing Caddy XL is basically a bucket, priced at about $70 and available at most sporting goods stores and online.

However, for that $70 – if fishing is your thing – you’re getting a lot of convenience.

While, yes, it’s a bucket, it also has a padded seat, night light, two rod holders, beverage holder and more. Besides, if you catch any fish, just toss them in the bucket! It seals tight and has a water-release valve for when you’re done. Some variations of the Fishing Caddy also come with a tackle box.

This has a handle, and isn’t heavy, and the convenience factor makes it worth it for a fisherman on the go. It can hold a person up to 400 pounds and is supposed to be especially useful for ice fishing.

Its look and branding add a nice touch. The durability is strong. It’s easy to put together and take apart, and doesn’t show wear and tear when doing so. This should give the typical fisherman many years.

It’s a fun gift idea, or buy it for yourself. Or join our contest (see page 2) and try to win one! –DJ

Simply Beautiful
Onå, an innovative European skincare company sent me some of their bestsellers to review, and I’m never going back to dingy drugstore substitutes.

Onå’s products are inspired by ancient Russian skincare rituals that promote cleanliness, moisture, and glow. My skin looks healthier than ever.

Since its roots are based in Russia, where there is extreme sunlight, wind, and frigid cold, unique vitamins and antioxidants are packed into every product.

Products like the Rejuvenating Serum and Glow Mask are extremely low maintenance and high quality. Immediately after using the mask I could notice a difference in the complexion and smoothness of my face.

Onå products make wonderful, luxurious holiday gifts for those you love and those you don’t know too well. All of the products are high quality and safe for sensitive skin types. To shop for your own Onå products visit onanewyork.com. –KJ

PowerA is A-OK!
The folks at PowerA, a leading manufacturer of gaming controllers and accessories, were very generous, giving us a wide array of products to sample. You can find these products on PowerA.com.

We have the utterly beautiful PowerA enhanced wireless controller for Nintendo Switch. It’s the Zelda model in blue and black and, unlike wired controllers, has motion controls, Bluetooth 5.0 and mappable buttons. It’s rather lightweight, but durable and hard to lose!

This controller is currently on back order, but normally is priced at $50. Try our contest to possibly to win one. See page 2.

PowerA provided us with a cute Pokemon Stealth Case for the Switch Lite, as well. Zippered. Store up to four game cards! It’s only $15.

For PS4, we got to try the PowerA Fusion Wired Fightpad. It’s sleek, blue and black, and is durable but lightweight for extended gaming sessions. It’s $60 on PowerA.com.

For XBox One and Windows 10, we tried the PowerA Fusion Pro Wired Controller. Now, this is a serious beast, big and heavy but highly accurate. It has swappable parts, metallic accents and injected rubber grips. Very space age! It’s normally $80, so a serious holiday gift.

It might be time to replace your controllers — and these are way better than the controllers that came with your system.

CBD for the Knee (or Elsewhere)
Wildflower, a company well-known for its CBD products, sent us two Cooling Sticks. They have 300mg CBD each. We tested one – which we’ll keep – but did not use the other. You can win that in our contest. They normally retail for $60. You can find them on buywildflower.com.

The stick we tested had a pleasant smell and wasn’t too greasy and applied well. The subject had an aching knee and claimed some benefit after several days of use. No hallucinatory effects; no weird dreams. This won’t get you high.

These sticks should last a long time. A week of daily use barely put a dent in it. This would be good for an athlete with a nagging sore area.

One Size Fits Most
A company called Arcade sent us two Arcade Belts. At first, we thought the belts had something to do with video games. But, alas, they are just regular belts. Albeit, they are made of materials that won’t set off alarms at the airport. They are lightweight and flexible, sharp looking and good for anyone with a 40-inch waist or less. They offer some flexibility, for comfort, so maybe you can push the belt a couple of more inches — say after that fourth piece of holiday pie. Of course, if you only have a 30-inch waist, they fit, too — and the slack is thin and doesn’t get in the way. The belt fits you just right, gives as needed, but doesn’t weigh you down. This would go well with slim or normal fit pants and a tucked in button-down shirt but no tie, especially. Many colors and designs. They range in price from $18-26. Find them on arcadebelts.com.

Cubist Art
TCG Toys asked us to try a 200-piece Rubik’s Puzzle. We didn’t have time for that, being on deadline and all, but our loss is your gain. Win one via our photo contest! These puzzles aren’t very expensive, only about $13. Ages 14+. Great for people who like Rubik’s Cube and beautiful art.

The art is somewhat abstract, making the puzzle even more challenging. I mean, it’s a freakin’ puzzle. Either you like these things, or you don’t. But if you do, and if you like Rubik’s Cubes, well, it’s a gotta-have.

It’s Hip to Be Square
OK BOOMER. Want to have a watch like your dad had when he was a young lad in the era of Pac-Man, Devo and “Revenge of the Nerds?”

The kind folks at Casio sent us a Men’s Classic Quartz Stainless-Steel Strap, Silver, 21.5 Casual Watch.

You can find it by its crazy model No. A700W-1ACF on www.casio.com/products/watches/classic. It’s a mere $27 on Amazon or at Walmart. Waterproof. Includes a stopwatch. The battery should last you three years. The band is actually comfortable.

If you can’t afford a Rolex, you may as well be retro-cool. That’s what a watch like this is all about.

And that’s it for our annual gift guide. Have a happy holiday season and a great new year!

If any of these items pique your interest, let us know. Save the print edition of this paper and take a fun picture with it. Maybe in front of your holiday display! Send us your details, too. The address is pics@cccn.us.

Again, thank you for reading Campus News, and thank you for another great year!
