Three art exhibits this spring semester at WCC

The Fine Arts Gallery at Westchester Community College will feature the work of Joel Carreiro, CHIAOZZA, and WCC students in 2020.

Joel Carreiro’s “Making Is Thinking” (a sample of his work is pictured) exhibition will be on display from January 27 through March 6. New York City-based artist Carreiro has built an extensive body of work inspired by art history. Using art reproductions from textbooks and magazines as his source material, he copies, enlarges and cuts the images into small pieces, then assembles them into mosaic-like collages that transform the familiar into something new.

CHIAOZZA, the collaborative studio of Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao, will explore play and craft across a variety of mediums in the “Crafting Space” Chromatically exhibition on display from March 19 through April 27. Experimenting with vibrant color relationships, iconic shape-making, and perspectival movement in the design of painted wooden structures and large environmental works, the duo’s pieces straddle the fields of painting, sculpture, design, and architecture.

The Student Show from May 4 through May 11 will feature selected student works from Art and Design curriculum classes including drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, graphic design, and digital media.

The exhibitions are free and open to the public Monday through Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Thursday evenings from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. The gallery is located on the third floor of the Academic Arts Building, across from the theatre.
