Campus News readies for April issue

Campus News

Yes, we will have an April issue. It’s our duty. We’ve come out monthly for 10 years, and our student readers rely on us for a sense of comfort and continuity. And that’s true now more than ever.

Here are some details as to how we will distribute:

  • We’ve had street boxes outside the entrances of two-year colleges in New York City for two years now and recently doubled our number of locations in the City; we have more boxes ready to go. These have had great pickup rates. Most of our student readers live near their community colleges, so will surely pass by and use these boxes, even if the physical campus remains closed.
  • Most colleges have only announced closing though March. We expect to be able to get onto many campuses sometime in April; even if students are e-learning, many will come on campus to register for summer/fall classes, check out the library, or use learning labs.
  • We anticipate Campus News will be more sought after and more closely read during this time, especially when/if physical classes will not be held. Our positive stories, puzzles and comics help ease the anxious mind. And there are no competing student events. Students will have downtime and look for a diversion.
  • Many advertisers are promoting summer classes, online classes and virtual fairs.
  • We will distribute some papers to take-out businesses adjacent to community colleges.
  • Newsprint is not a common spreader of viruses; our delivery people wear gloves.
  • We are working with community college administrations to also get out our e-edition.
  • We are using US mail to get the paper to some key offices on each campus.
  • We will do paid social media boosts to also get out the e-edition.
  • We are interviewing community college presidents for stories about how their campus is handling this crisis.
  • We anticipate the April issue of Campus News will get as many, if not more eyeballs, than usual.
