Suffolk’s Porfido helps feed hospital night shift

Dominic Porfido, a Suffolk County Community College Accounting major and soon-to-be member of the class of 2020, spends nights volunteering with his boss, John Murray owner of the Hero Joint in his hometown of Patchogue ensuring the hospital night shift doesn’t go hungry.

Dominic, who after graduation plans to continue his studies in the college’s Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program, works with Murray loading vehicles with boxes of food for delivery to workers at hospitals from Valley Stream in Nassau County to eastern Suffolk County – more than 20 in all.

Porfido says the effort was organized by Murray and Justin Heath, owner of John Moore’s Deli in Bellmore, when they realized hospital food donations were plentiful during the day, but few and far between at night.
