Podcast: Delivering papers in NYC in the COVID era

Recently, on the CampusXM “Real Journalism” Podcast, I detailed delivering papers to news boxes in New York City during the COVID-19 crisis.

If you are on an Apple device of any kind, get it here (and subscribe). Otherwise, get it here.

As you can guess, I own a paper called Campus News, which has existed for over a decade. It mostly is delivered on college campuses but we also have news boxes directly outside many urban campuses so we upped our deliveries to them and pickup rate has been great.

Yes, I often deliver myself. It gets me out of the house, and it’s just easier sometimes, rather than juggling logistics with random delivery people in each region.

So in this podcast, I stop in each borough and record for a few minutes from the vacant streets, offering my observations.

I’ve also recorded other recent podcasts, including:

  • THE PROS AND CONS OF OWNING A SMALLTOWN NEWSPAPER (5/2/20) — In this podcast, I talk about the other newspaper I own, a 1000-circulation bi-weekly in Upstate New York, and how I make it work in these difficult times.
  • POLITICALLY INCORRECT 1980s TEEN FILMS (4/28/20) — I have some fun here, noting how being home more due to the COVID shutdown has led me to find so-bad-they’re-good movies from my youth on streaming services, including the hard-to-find “The Last American Virgin.”

I hope you enjoy. Find more on CampusXM.com!
