Columbia-Greene launches virtual bookstore

Columbia-Greene Community College has launched its first-ever Virtual Bookstore, providing textbooks online exclusively through BNC Virtual – a division of Barnes and Noble Education (BNED).

The virtual bookstore replaces C-GCC’s former brick and mortar store, and, according to C-GCC Purchasing Officer Pat Day, will continue to offer all existing textbook services – buying and selling, returns and refunds, special orders, and more.

“Ultimately, this transition to a virtual bookstore is meant to benefit students by creating a more secure and efficient way of acquiring course materials,” she said, noting that the switch also introduces several new features, including an online portal that automatically links students with their required texts for each course on their syllabi, and access to more than 425,000 digital titles.

In fact, the new system will automatically offer a lower cost digital option to a traditional textbook when available. Used books, rentals, a marketplace that connects students to private vendors, price matching, ‘Guaranteed Buyback’ titles, and exclusive student offers round out the new store’s list of savings opportunities.
