Columbia-Greene Community College is offering a new, non-credit course in College Preparedness, offering students an in-depth look at preparing for the college of their choice.
According to Matthew Green pictured, assistant dean of Enrollment Management at C-GCC and the course’s instructor, this free class will cover the admissions process, resources available for financial aid including alternative forms of funding, support and accessibility services, and how students can maximize the college experience for their benefit.
“As overwhelming as the college process can be, students are not alone,” he said. “We want to help them and their families learn to navigate this process, regardless of whether they ultimately enroll at C-GCC.”
Green, who has worked in higher education for more than 25 years, said he’s witnessed what students and parents go through first-hand, having worked with thousands of students individually.
“It is truly rewarding to reduce some of the frustrations and anxieties families might have in selecting and enrolling in a college,” said Green, noting that the course includes five separate workshops: “Choose a College,” “Pay for College,” “Support and Accessibility Services,” “Academic Advising and College Lingo,” and “Your First Day,” to be held Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Students may choose to register for any or all of the workshops. For more information or to register, call 518.828.4181, extension 3342, or e-mail communityservices@sunycgcc.edu.
