Our annual letter to advertisers

Dear friends and advertisers:

I’d like to alert you to some great happenings at Campus News that are essentially “free bonus” for you and your clients for being loyal throughout the years:

  • We are finally on the streets of New York City, via honor boxes planted outside your feeder community colleges, through permitting with the DOT. This is a new audience for the paper, as we couldn’t add these colleges to our route previously for logistical reasons. Now we are available at all CUNY community colleges in the four main boroughs (sorry Staten Island) along with practically all of the SUNY community colleges east of the Hudson River. We are not sure yet what the street-level pickup rates will be, but are using overages from the outer reaches of our route (west of the Hudson) to fill these boxes. If the boxes prove tremendously popular, we will just print more copies at no extra charge to 10x contracted advertisers. More free bonus!
  • Speaking of pickup rates, Campus News is more popular than ever. Pickup rates are 90-100 percent on our campuses. Our scores of racks in student centers, cafeterias and academic buildings may start each month with 100 or more papers. By the end of the month there’s typically just a copy or two left, if that. We are very conscientious when it comes to distribution. Other print publications can’t match this efficiency nor even come close to our numbers. We run student photo contests from the cover (see example photo, right) to spur further engagement. As well, we have been redesigned to be student-friendly. Our style and content speak to our audience.
  • Our site is now ADA compliant with audio news reading software in English, Spanish, French, Italian and German for each and every story. This initiative should also find us new audiences, especially considering the rise of audio-based services like Alexa and Google Home. Advertising opportunities will be available via the audio software, as well. We are far ahead of all other newspapers with this software.

Thank you for working with us over the years. We really appreciate it. The ads have helped us improve Campus News while maintaining really low advertising rates. We consider ads content. We don’t just accept any ad. We only work with advertisers who help our student readers succeed. Our audience is authentic, engaged and quite large and growing! They trust and like us, and, thus, you, too. We look forward to working with you further in 2019.

Happy Holidays!
