“Reshape” art exhibit at C-GCC

The Foundation Gallery at Columbia-Greene Community College is honored to present Reshape, an exhibition by the artist Matt Frieburghaus. The show will open with a reception on Thursday, March 7, at 12:30 p.m.

Frieburghaus uses photographs and video and audio recordings to explore light and sound gathered from trips to Iceland. The show will feature 3-D printed objects, video projected on 3-D prints, single channel video, digital prints, and collage.

These works use blocks of color, lines, layers, and cut shapes to reference the dramatic low-arctic light, the midnight sun and the ever-changing environment of Icelandic geological features such as lava flows and glaciers. Sounds were created by recording melting ice with a contact microphone or wind using a field recorder. The visuals were created by manipulating images, video stills, or video clips using digital processes. Although the media was captured in Iceland, Frieburghaus produced all work in his Hudson Valley Studio.

Matt Frieburghaus has exhibited nationally and internationally at festivals, galleries, and museums including ArtsWestchester, Boston Cyberarts Gallery, Bronx Calling: The Second AIM Biennial, Everson Museum of Art, FILE, Festival Miden, Field Projects, Foster Gallery, University of Wisconsin Eau Claire; Hartell Gallery, Cornell University; HVCCA, Marquee Projects, Matteawan Gallery, ODETTA, Simultan Festival, WAAM, and Work • Ann Arbor, University of Michigan. His awards and residencies include Artist in the Marketplace, Bronx Museum of the Arts, Vermont Studio Center, and Nes Artist Residency in Skagaströnd, Iceland. His work has appeared in several Hudson Valley publications, Arte Fuse, and Volume One Magazine. He received an MFA in Computer Art from Syracuse University and a BFA in Animation from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. He is Associate Professor of Digital Media at Marist College.

The Foundation Gallery located in the Arts Center on the C-GCC campus, located on Route 23 in Greenport, one mile east of the Rip Van Winkle Bridge. Route 23 can be reached from Exit 21 of the New York State Thruway or the Hudson exit of the Taconic Parkway.
