C-GCC Faculty Association Awards announced

Columbia-Greene Community College students Lisa Blake of Lagrangeville (right), N.Y., and Jasmine Pewarski Pine Plains, N.Y., (left) are the recipients of this year’s Faculty Association Awards.

The award’s purpose is to “recognize academic performance among non-traditional students,” and requires that applicants have completed at least 12 credit hours at C-GCC with a 3.25 grade-point-average (GPA) or higher, and be at least 25 years of age as of the award date.

Winners are selected based on a combination of their cumulative GPA and on their original essays — answering the question “How have your experiences at Columbia-Greene Community College contributed to your personal and academic growth, and to the ultimate goals you want to achieve?”

The essays, which were reviewed by a committee of faculty members, were judged on style, organization, content, grammar, and language.

“Both Lisa and Jasmine strongly stated how C-GCC helped them achieve their goals,” said Associate Professor of Mathematics Stephanie Olstad, who coordinates the award with Professor of Biological Sciences Dawn Holsapple.

Pewarski is working toward an Associate of Applied Science degree (A.A.S.) in Medical Assisting, and Blake is working toward her Associate of Science degree (A.S.) in Nursing. Both students received monetary prizes of $250 each as part of their award.
